You can add, edit, or delete a sales tax from your account settings.

Add a sales tax in your web browser
To add a sales tax in your web browser:
- Click on your business name in the top right corner.
- From the drop-down menu, select Business settings.
- Select Sales Taxes in the Settings menu.
- Click Create a sales tax.
- Enter the tax name, abbreviation, and description (optional).
- Enter your tax number, if applicable.
To display your tax ID number on invoices, check the box next to Show tax ID on invoices. - If the tax is recoverable, check the box next to This tax is recoverable.
- If the tax is a compound tax, check the box next to This is a compound tax.
- Enter only the tax rate number
- Click Save.
You can also add a new sales tax while creating an invoice, estimate, bill, or transaction. All sales taxes you create can be found under Business Settings > Sales Taxes.
After you save the new sales tax, you can add it to your invoices, estimates, bills, and transactions.
Edit or delete a sales tax in your web browser
You cannot delete a sales tax that has been added to a bill or invoice. To delete the tax, first remove it from any bills or invoices.
To edit or delete a sales tax in your web browser:
- Click on your business name in the top right corner.
- From the drop-down menu, select Business settings.
- Select Sales Taxes in the Settings menu.
- To edit the tax, click on the pencil icon to the right of the sales tax.
You can edit the tax name, abbreviation, description, and tax number. To update the tax rate, enter the new rate and select the effective date. - To delete the tax, click the trash can icon to the right of it.
Deleting a sales tax does not remove that tax from any invoices, estimates, bills, or transactions it is already on. You need to manually remove the tax or update it to a different sales tax.
If you delete sales taxes from transactions, the taxes will become archived. This means you will see them on the Chart of Accounts page under Liabilities & Credit Cards, marked with an Archived tag.

To add a sales tax in the Wave mobile app:
- In the bottom menu, tap Dashboard, then tap More at the top right.
- Tap Sales taxes.
- Tap Add a sales tax or the + icon at the top right.
- Enter the tax name and tax rate.
- If the tax is recoverable, check the box next to This is a recoverable tax.
- If the tax is a compound tax, check the box next to This is a compound tax.
- Enter your Tax ID/number, if applicable.
To display your tax ID number on invoices you added sales taxes to, check the box next to Show tax ID on invoices. - Tap Save.
You can also add a new sales tax while creating an invoice. All sales taxes you create can be found under More > Sales taxes in the mobile app.
Edit or delete a sales tax in the mobile app
To edit or delete a sales tax in the Wave mobile app:
- On the bottom menu, tap Dashboard, then tap More at the top right.
- Tap Sales taxes.
- Tap on the sales tax you want to edit or delete.
- If editing, make your changes, then tap Save.
- If deleting, scroll down to the bottom, then tap Delete this sales tax. Tap Delete again in the pop-up box to confirm.
