Apply for payroll direct deposit

Before setting up direct deposit with Wave, you must have completed these tasks: add employee(s) or contractor(s), enter business details, add company signatory, and add a funding account.

Business and company signatory details are required because Wave is legally obligated to collect certain information about the businesses using its services to move money for customers. This is to keep their services and partners secure, and to combat fraud and money laundering. This is an industry-standard obligation.


You need to complete the direct deposit application to authorize Wave to fund your payroll directly from your bank account.

  1. On the left-side menu, click Payroll > Run Payroll.
  2. Click Payroll Setup.
  3. In the Simplify your payroll section click the Authorize button.
  4. Scan your photo ID.
    1. If you’re using a webcam, Wave opens your webcam to allow you to take the picture.
    2. If you’re uploading an existing image, click Choose file and find the document. Click Continue to upload.
  5. Answer any questions asked.

    You will have 3 minutes to answer the questions, so try to do this as quickly and accurately as possible without leaving the page.

  6. Review and agree to Wave Payroll's Terms of Service.

Once submitted, your direct deposit application will be reviewed in 4-6 business days. You will hear from Wave at the email address you used to sign up for Wave.

If you need to pay your employees before your application is approved, you can still run payroll and issue checks.

For employees to receive pay by direct deposit, you will need to enter their direct deposit information and turn direct deposit on in their employee profile.

Employees can also enter and manage their own bank details if you invite them to Wave. When you add a new employee to Wave, select the option to have them onboard and enter their own information. Find out how in Add an employee to payroll.
