What you need to know about new hire reports

State and federal law require that all employers report information on new and rehired employees to the appropriate agencies within 20 days of date of hire. If you are enrolled in payroll tax payments and filings (offered in Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia,  Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, New York, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin), Wave will take care of this for you! Here’s what you need to know.

When you hire an employee and add them in Wave, or when you reinstate an existing employee, we will send New Hire Reports to your state agencies. We recommend you add the employee into our system as soon as you can to ensure the reports are sent in time. However, Wave can send a New Hire Report as long as the date of hire is not more than 30 days old. Once you’ve entered the employee in Wave, you don’t need to do anything else!

Please note that Wave will handle your New Hire Report as soon as your automatic tax payments become active. Make sure you set up tax service authorization and start your trial (or activate) to take advantage of this.
