Add or edit employee tax details

Once you have added a new employee to your payroll in Wave, use the Form W-4 your employee completes to enter their tax details. Learn more about Form W-4.

  1. On the left-side menu, click Payroll > Employees.
  2. Click on the name of the employee.
  3. Select Tax Details from the options on the left.
  4. Fill in the required details.
  5. Click Save.

Any changes to an employee’s tax profile will be reflected on the next pay period. If information is missing from any employees’ Tax Details page, you will receive a payroll notice on your Run Payroll page to let you know about the needed information.

Canada

Once you have added a new employee to your payroll in Wave, use the federal and provincial or territorial TD1 forms your employee completes to enter their tax details. Learn more about TD1 forms.

  1. On the left-side menu, click Payroll > Employees.
  2. Click on the name of the employee.
  3. Select Tax Details from the options on the left.
  4. Fill in the required details.

    If the total claim amount is the same as the Basic personal amount listed on the TD1 form, you can check the boxes next to Use the Federal basic personal amount and Use the Provincial basic personal amount. If the total claim amount is different, uncheck the boxes and then enter in the total claim amount.

  5. If your employee is exempt from CPP, you can change their status. If you mark them as exempt, you can also restart their contributions anytime from this page. Learn about stopping or restarting CPP contributions.
  6. Click Save.

Any changes to an employee’s tax profile will be reflected on the next pay period.
