The state of New York is introducing new non-emergency (non-COVID-19-related) leave requirements. The non-emergency (non-COVID-19-related) paid sick leave requirements will go into effect on September 30, 2020, with use of accrued sick leave by employees to begin January 1, 2021 [S.B. 7506B, L. 2020].
When will the leave start accruing?
Beginning on September 30, 2020, employees will start accruing sick leave at a rate of one hour for every 30 hours worked. For employees hired after that date, leave will start accruing on their first day of work.
When will employees be able to start using the leave?
Employees will be able to start using their accrued sick leave beginning on January 1, 2021.
