Archive or restore an account in your chart of accounts

The Chart of Accounts page is only available on the web version of Wave.

You can archive accounts in your chart of accounts that you no longer need. You cannot delete an account in your chart of accounts. Archiving an account does not affect existing transactions. You will still see the archived account on reports in periods where transactions exist, however, you won't be able to categorize new transactions to the account.

Archived accounts will not appear on the Transactions page in the category drop-down. To archive an account:

  1. On the left-side menu, click Accounting > Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account.
  3. On the far right of the account, click the pencil icon.
  4. Next to Archive Account, select the checkbox.
  5. Click Save.

You will now see an Archived tag to the right of the account’s name.

Restore an account

When you restore an archived account, you can categorize transactions to it again. To restore an account:

  1. On the left-side menu, click Accounting > Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate the account.
  3. On the far right of the account, click the pencil icon.
  4. Next to Archive Account, unselect the checkbox.
  5. Click Save.
