Amend an approved payroll period

If you have missed a detail on a payroll period or need to adjust the information, you can amend it. Missed or incorrect details might include:

  • Adding an employee to the pay period
  • Adding a benefit to an employee’s pay
  • Adding a bonus to an employee’s pay
  • Recording a deduction from an employee’s pay
  • Adjusting an employee's worked hours or wages
  • Adjusting or adding an employee’s missed vacation, sick, or holiday pay
  • Adjusting an employee’s tax deductions

Amend a recently approved payroll

To amend a recently approved payroll, delete the payroll. Add the missed information or make the adjustments, then approve the payroll again.

You can only add a missed benefit or deduction to an employee’s recently approved payroll if the payroll hasn’t yet been paid out. If the payroll has already been paid out, add it to your next payroll. Learn how to add a benefit or deduction.

Amend a payroll period at quarter-end

Each business year has four quarters, and each quarter is three months long. Quarter-end months are March, June, September, and December.

If you notice that you have missed a detail on a payroll for the ending quarter, submit an amendment request to our payroll team. To submit a quarter-end amendment request:

  1. Download the correct template for your business location from the bottom of this page: [US] Payroll adjustment template or [CAD] Payroll adjustment template. 
  2. Fill in the requested information. Provide all the relevant details requested, as Wave cannot accept incomplete submissions.
  3. Open Mave, Wave’s automated chatbot, and request to speak to a Support Agent.
  4. When speaking with a Support Agent on chat or sending an email to our Support Team, attach the completed template and add any other relevant details.

If you have completed running your payroll for the calendar year and need to include any missed information, submit an amendment request to our payroll team. 

To submit a year-end amendment request:

  1. Download the correct template for your business location from the bottom of this page: [US] Payroll adjustment template or [CAD] Payroll adjustment template. 
  2. Fill in the requested information. Provide all the relevant details requested, as incomplete submissions can result in payroll or tax calculation errors.
  3. Open Mave, Wave’s automated chatbot, and request to speak to a Support Agent.
  4. When speaking with a Support Agent on chat or sending an email to our Support team, attach the completed template and add any other relevant details.

To have the amendments completed before year-end filings, submit your amendment request before November 23, 2025, for US businesses, or January 31, 2026, for Canadian businesses. 

If you miss the pre-filing amendment deadline, submit your amendment request before March 31. If your request is not submitted before March 31, you must complete amendments outside of Wave.
