For US businesses with employees in California, Massachusetts, Oregon, Arizona, Washington, Maryland, New Jersey, Illinois, and Vermont, Wave automatically opts employees into sick leave policies.
Sick leave policies are applied to employees individually. You must opt each eligible employee in separately. When opting into a sick leave policy, ensure you remain compliant with all applicable employment standards and the terms outlined in your employment agreement.
To opt an employee in:
- Log in at waveapps.com.
- On the left-side menu, click Payroll > Employees.
- Click the employee's name.
- In the employee menu, click Sick Leave.
- At the top right, click Opt In.
- Review the information in the pop-up. To continue, click Confirm.
The policy defaults to a basic employee sick leave policy.
To add paid sick time to employee pay, before you approve the payroll, enter the hours into their timesheet.
