Understand your aged receivables report

The aged receivables report helps you track and manage outstanding invoice payments. It shows your unpaid and overdue invoices, categorized by how overdue they are.

The As of date is the starting point of the report. Any invoices listed as overdue are considered overdue as of that specific date. If an invoice was paid after your selected As of date, it will still appear as overdue on the current report.

To see the most up-to-date unpaid amounts, use today’s date for your As of date.

Each row in the report lists overdue invoice totals for one customer. Your report has 6 columns:

  • Not Yet Overdue: Invoices that are unpaid but are not yet overdue.
  • 30 or Less: Invoices less than 30 days overdue.
  • 31-60: Invoices that are 31 to 60 days overdue.
  • 61-90: Invoices that are 61 to 90 days overdue.
  • 91 or More: Invoices more than 91 days overdue.
  • Total Unpaid: The total overdue amount for that specific customer.

At the bottom of the report are the total amounts due from all customers for each column.

Your aged receivables report may not always balance with your accounts receivable account. The accounts receivable account is an asset account that shows the money your business is owed. When you approve an invoice draft, the accounts receivable account is debited, increasing the balance in the account. When you record a payment for an invoice, the accounts receivable account is credited, decreasing the balance in the account. The aged receivable report only shows the unpaid and overdue invoices, which could result in a balance discrepancy.
