For now, tags are available to businesses that were created before January 1, 2026, do not use Wave's invoice feature, and are subscribed to Wave's Pro Plan. To subscribe to Pro, see Activate a Pro Plan subscription.

If a tag is on any transactions, you cannot delete the tag. Instead, you can archive it. When you archive a tag, it stays on your transactions, but you can no longer use or edit it.

Deleting a tag is permanent, and the tag cannot be recovered. If you have archived a tag, you can restore it at any time. Learn how to restore an archived tag.

Archive or delete a tag

To archive or delete a tag:

  1. Open the Tags page.
  2. Select one or more tags from the list.
  3. Click the trash can icon at the top of the tags list.
  4. In the pop-up, depending on the tags you chose, select from the following options:
    • Archive tags in use and delete others: This archives tags that are actively attached to a transaction and deletes the tags that are unused.
    • Archive all: This archives all selected tags.
    • Delete: If all selected tags are not actively attached to a transaction, they will be deleted permanently.

To view archived tags, on the Tags page, select the Archived tab at the top left.
