Changes for Wave users outside the United States and Canada

In November 2020, Wave communicated our strategy was to focus on the US and Canadian markets. At that time, we ended all product and customer support for users outside those countries. Delivering experiences that met our standards meant focusing on serving the US and Canada only.

Recently, Wave introduced a new pricing model for users in the US and Canada. This change was crafted to enhance our ability to reinvest in the products our users love most and meet the evolving needs of small business owners.

Due to recent updates to our products and pricing, users outside the US and Canada are no longer able to automatically send invoices or reminders via Wave.

As a result of these changes, we understand that you may need a solution that better fits your invoicing needs. If you are outside the US and Canada, you can switch to our trusted partner Zoho Books for access to comprehensive accounting software, payment processing, and customizable invoices. As an existing Wave user, you can unlock one year of free access to an exclusive, custom-built Zoho Books subscription when you sign up using this link.

Whether you continue to use Wave or switch providers, we are sincerely grateful to be a part of your ownership journey.

How do I know if my business is affected?

If your business is outside of the US and Canada, you are affected by these recent changes. After logging in, users outside of supported countries were shown a message about the changes.

If you don’t have businesses located outside the US and Canada, you can automatically send invoices and reminders via Wave with our online payments feature or by subscribing to the Pro Plan.

Why can I no longer automatically send invoices or reminders via Wave?

You’re no longer able to automatically send invoices or reminders via Wave because those features are now included when you add our online payments feature or paid Pro Plan, both of which are only available to businesses within the US and Canada.

You can still send invoices, estimates, and other documents manually, via links or PDFs. Invoices can still be created and tracked but will need to be sent outside of Wave (for example, via links or PDFs sent through your own email).

For a more comprehensive invoicing experience outside of the US and Canada, we recommend switching to our trusted partner, Zoho Books.

What happens to my existing Wave account?

When we ended our international support in November 2020, users outside the US and Canada were allowed to continue using Wave. We notified these users that Wave could not guarantee compliance in regions outside of the US and Canada and encouraged them to switch from Wave to our partner, Zoho Books. At that time, Wave also stopped allowing new businesses outside of the US and Canada to sign up for a Wave account.

As a current Wave user, your existing account will remain active.

This means you can create unlimited invoices, estimates, and other documents and customize your invoices with your brand logo and colors. You can also manually create unlimited bookkeeping records and access insights via your dashboard and reports. Businesses that already have users added to their businesses as of May 1, 2024, can continue to add additional users as collaborators for free. Please be aware that ongoing product updates might affect your experience.

Wave has no current plans to close existing accounts for customers outside the US and Canada. However, this may change in the future.

Why is Wave only serving the US and Canada now?

Wave has always focused primarily on our local markets in the US and Canada. As we continue to build products and features, we will continue to prioritize these markets. This approach allows us to allocate resources and attention to support Wave’s growing functionality.

In addition, local legislation in some markets makes it infeasible for Wave to offer full services outside the US and Canada, requiring us to limit Wave’s functionality for international customers.
