To edit a transaction’s main details, such as the Date and Description, you can make edits in-line on the Transactions page. You can edit other details in the Edit transaction pop-up. If the changes will affect a reconciled period, a warning pop-up will appear. Learn how to fix an unreconciled period.

The Edit transaction pop-up lists the transaction's source and date of creation, if it came from merged transactions, a bank connection or Wave's payroll feature, and the date the transaction was last modified.

To edit a transaction:

  1. On the left-side menu, select Accounting > Transactions.
  2. Find the transaction. You can use filters or search.
  3. To edit the Date, Description, Account, Category and total Amount in-line, click the field and enter the new details. Updates save automatically.
  4. To edit other details:
    1. Click the dropdown arrow to the right of the transaction.
    2. Select Edit more details.

    3. In the pop-up, you can also edit the Notes, transaction type, attached receipts, add sales tax, customers, vendors, and tags.

      The Notes section is only to provide additional context to anyone viewing the transaction. Text in the notes field cannot be used to search for a transaction.

    4. Tap Save.

  1. On the bottom menu, select Accounting > Transactions.
  2. Find the transaction. You can use filters or sort them by date.
  3. Tap the transaction.

  4. You can edit the Date, Description, Type, Account, Amount, Category, Notes and Receipt.

    The Notes section is only to provide additional context to anyone viewing the transaction. Text in the notes field cannot be used to search for a transaction.

  5. Tap Save.
