FAQ: Plans for legacy businesses

Wave introduced the Starter Plan and the Pro Plan subscriptions on January 29, 2024, in Canada and on February 5, 2024, in the United States. Businesses created in Wave before these dates are called Legacy businesses.

On June 1, 2026, Wave accounts that have a business labelled as Legacy and do not use one of the following features in any of their businesses will have their Legacy businesses migrated to Wave’s Starter Plan:

  • A business active on Wave’s payments feature
  • A business with an active payroll subscription
  • A business using another paid Wave service

If you do have a business using any of these features, your Wave experience remains the same.

If you have bank connections on your Personal profile, you will continue to have access to this feature.

Affected businesses received an email on April 30, 2026, about the upcoming changes to their account. If you did not receive this email, check your Junk and Spam folders. If you lost Legacy features and believe you should still have them, please reach out to our Support Team.

Why am I losing the Legacy status for my business?

This change is being made to streamline our operations and continue to invest in new Pro Plan features that help you easily manage your business cash flow, safely and securely.

Wave is continuing to invest in new automation features for the Pro Plan and is re-aligning its free plan to its core manual features.

What features do I have on the Starter Plan?

With the Starter Plan, you can continue to:

  • Create invoices, estimates, and bills
  • Have the option to accept online payments
  • Manually upload bank statements
  • Categorize transactions, reconcile bank accounts, and generate accounting reports
  • Use Wave’s mobile app

To continue to use bank connections for transaction imports or share your business with additional users, upgrade to the Pro Plan.

What happens to the collaborators on my business?

As of June 1, 2026, your collaborators will not be able to access your account. To continue to use collaborators on your business, upgrade to the Pro Plan before June 1.

How do I upgrade to the Pro Plan?

To upgrade to the Pro Plan, sign in to your Wave account. Visit your dashboard or use your invoicing or accounting features, and click the peach “Upgrade now” button. For detailed information about how to upgrade, see Change your Pro or Receipt subscription plan. You can read Wave's full terms and conditions in our subscription terms of service.

Is there a free trial for the Pro Plan?

No, there is no free trial for the Pro Plan. The Pro Plan is a pay-as-you-go subscription, so you can cancel anytime. You will keep access to the features for the remainder of the period you paid for and then return to the Starter Plan. The Starter Plan is free.

Do Pro Plan features apply to all of my businesses in Wave after I upgrade?

Pro Plan features are only available on the business you upgrade. You can upgrade more than one business to the Pro Plan to access the features.
