Can't link bank account to a bookkeeping account

When connecting a new or previously connected bank to Wave for transaction imports, you may not be able to select the specific bookkeeping account in your Chart of Accounts to import into.

Common causes

  • The bookkeeping account is already linked to another bank account that is importing transactions into it
  • The bookkeeping account type doesn’t match the bank account type. For example, you can't import transactions from a checking account into a credit card bookkeeping account
  • The currency of the bookkeeping account doesn’t match the currency of the bank account
  • The bookkeeping account has been archived in your chart of accounts
  • The bookkeeping account is your cash on hand account. This isn’t considered a bank account in Wave, so you cannot import transactions into it

Fix issues linking your bank account to a bookkeeping account

  • If your bookkeeping account is already linked to a bank account, delete the connected bank account. Then, try to connect your bank to Wave again. You should now be able to select the bookkeeping account
  • If the currency or account type of the accounts doesn't match, select a different account
  • If the bookkeeping account has been archived, unarchive it. Then, try to connect your bank to Wave again. You should now be able to select the bookkeeping account

If you can’t delete the bank connection, open Mave, Wave’s automated chatbot, and request the Support Team.
