Scan and upload your receipts

The receipts scan feature allows you to capture and upload images of receipts on the mobile app, upload receipt files in your web browser, and forward your digital receipts via email. This automatically creates corresponding expense transactions in your accounting.

Scan and upload a receipt on the Wave mobile app

  1. Log in to the Wave mobile app.
  2. Tap Receipts on the bottom menu.
  3. Tap the camera icon at the top right.

    If you're uploading your first receipt, tap Scan receipt instead.

  4. Take a picture of the receipt.

    If it is your first time taking a picture, you’ll need to tap Allow Access to give the app permission to access your camera.

  5. To take pictures of multiple receipts, tap Add on the bottom.
  6. Tap Done.

Once the image is uploaded successfully, it is added to your list of Posted receipts. An expense transaction is created automatically on your Transactions page in your web browser.

To verify the information is correct, or to add or edit any details, tap on the receipt. You can edit the date, amount, account, and category, and add notes. Once you have verified the transaction details, you can mark the receipt as reviewed by tapping the Mark as reviewed button.

If you have already imported an expense transaction, Wave will automatically merge it with the created receipt transaction. Find more details in Automated bookkeeping with auto-updates.

Scan and upload a receipt in your web browser

  1. Log in to your account at waveapps.com.
  2. On the left-side menu, click Receipts.
  3. Click Select files, then upload your receipt file from the file browser.

    You can upload up to 10 files at a time in JPG, GIF, PNG or PDF formats. Each file can be up to 5MB in size.

You can also scan receipts directly from your Transactions page. On the left-side menu, click Accounting > Transactions, then click Scan receipt at the top of the page.

Once the file is scanned and uploaded successfully, you will see it added to your list of recent scans. An expense transaction is created automatically on your Transactions page.

To verify the information is correct, or to add or edit any details, click on the receipt. This opens the transaction on your Transactions page where you can edit the details.
