Understand your account balances report

The account balances report shows the balances and total money movement for each account in Wave within the selected time period.

Your account balances report is split into sections based on your Chart of Accounts tabs. Each row in the report lists a different account. There are 6 columns that list:

  • Account: The name of the financial account.
  • Starting Balance: The amount of money in that account on the first day of your selected date range.
  • Debit: The total amount of money that was withdrawn from the account during your selected date range. This amount represents your purchases, bill payments, and expenses.
  • Credit: The total amount of money that was deposited into the account during your selected date range. This amount represents your invoice payments, estimate deposits, and sales.
  • Net Movement: The overall change in the account's balance. This amount is calculated by subtracting the account's Debits from its Credits. A positive number means the account gained money, and a negative number means the account lost money.
  • Ending Balance: The current account balance. This amount is calculated by adding or subtracting the Net Movement amount from the Starting Balance.

At the bottom of each section are the total amounts for each column.
