For now, tags are available to businesses that were created before January 1, 2026, do not use Wave's invoice feature, and are subscribed to Wave's Pro Plan. To subscribe to Pro, see Activate a Pro Plan subscription.
If you are eligible for the tags feature but do not see it in your business, reach out to our Support Team. Open Mave, Wave's automated chatbot, and request a Support Agent.
Tags are custom labels that can be added to your transactions to track specific events, properties, projects, and more. Use tags to track profitability, make comparisons, and group income and expenses. Learn how to Add a tag to a transaction.
At this time, tags are only available on the web version of Wave.
Create a tag
Each tag must have its own name, meaning you cannot have two tags with the same name. Names are not case sensitive, so a tag named House and HOUSE are the same.
To create a new tag:
- On the left-side menu, click Accounting > Tags.
- At the top right, click Add a new tag.
- Name your tag and add an optional description.
- Click Save.
Edit a tag
To edit a tag:
- Open the Tags page.
- Select a tag from the list.
- In the pop-up, make your edits.
- Click Save.
