When an employee will be away from work for an extended period of time, they should be placed on leave.
To place an employee on leave:
- On the left-side menu, click Payroll > Employees.
- Select the employee's name.
- Click Employment Status.
- Click Place on Leave, then Let’s Get Started.
- Select the last day of work from the dropdown calendar.
- Enter the employee’s date of return if you know it. If you don’t, leave it blank.
- Click Save Changes.
The month you place an employee on leave is considered an active month. Your payroll subscription bill will reflect the full active employee fee for that month. Their active employee fee will not be billed moving forward unless they are reinstated.
If your employee does not return from their leave, they will need to be offboarded. Our Support Team can help ensure the correct dates and owed amounts are recorded. To reach them, open Mave, Wave’s automated chatbot, and request a Support Agent.
Canadian employers must issue an ROE (Record of Employment) to all employees going on leave to remain compliant with Service Canada. Learn how to Issue or amend an ROE (Record of Employment).
