Wave works with Plaid, a specialist provider of secure bank data connections, to allow you to connect your bank to Wave. Bank accounts can be connected to import transactions automatically from your bank accounts, fund your payroll, or accept payments from customers.

Common reasons you can’t connect a bank account
What can I do if my bank won't connect?
Common reasons you can’t connect a bank account
- Your business is not located in the US or Canada
- Your bank may not be supported. While Plaid supports thousands of financial institutions, not all institutions and account types are supported, even if they are a supported account type
- You use an unsupported multi-factor authentication (MFA) method. MFA is a security measure that prompts you to verify your identity in addition to your username and password, for example, by entering a verification code. Plaid generally supports MFA, but certain types of MFA are not supported, and prevent Plaid from connecting
- Your business is not active on payroll, online payments, or Wave’s Pro Plan
What can I do if my bank won't connect?
- For online payments or payroll funding, manually connect your bank account
- For transactions, turn off automatic bank imports if your bank used to be connected, and upload a bank or credit card statement or use Wave Connect. Learn how to install and link Wave Connect.
It isn’t possible to manually add your bank account to import transactions.
You can request for Plaid to support your bank. Plaid will review your request, but there is no guarantee they will be able to support it. To make a request:
- On the left-side menu, click Banking > Connected Accounts.
- Search the financial institution’s name in the search bar.
- At the bottom of the dropdown list of bank names, click Let us know and upload a bank statement.
- In the pop-up window, type the institution’s name and enter their website URL, if applicable.
- Click Submit and upload a bank statement.
You will be prompted to upload a bank or credit card statement on your Transactions page. If you do not want to upload a statement, you do not need to continue with this step.
