Frequently asked questions about payroll subscription billing

When is my payroll subscription billed?

Your payroll subscription is billed on the first day of each month.

Why is my second month’s payroll subscription bill more than my first month’s?

Your first monthly bill will only include the monthly subscription fee, without any contractor or active employee fees.

If you activate your subscription within the last 10 days of the month, you are charged a pro-rated subscription fee for the first month.

Future payroll subscription bills will include the current month's subscription fee and the previous month's active employee and contractor fees.

Why was I charged extra for my payroll subscription this month?

If you have added active employees, made employees off leave active again, or paid additional contractors in the previous month, your payroll subscription bill will reflect the additional charges.

The month that you placed an employee on leave is considered an active month, so your payroll subscription bill will reflect the active employee fees. For more information on payroll subscription fees, see How much does Wave’s payroll subscription cost?

Why did I receive a bill for the month after I stopped my payroll subscription?

Wave's payroll subscription charges employee and contractor fees after the month ends. When you cancel, your final bill will have employee and contractor fees for your final month of service. Wave reminds you of this bill and the billing date when you cancel.

My payroll subscription is inactive, and I’m still being charged. Why?

If you use another paid service in Wave, those charges may be for that feature. To confirm if the charges are for your payroll subscription:

  1. Log in at waveapps.com.
  2. At the top right, click your business name, then Business Settings.
  3. In the Settings menu, under Payroll, click Billing.

If you do not see any charges, in the Settings menu, click Manage Subscriptions to review other recurring subscription payments.
